API Technologies' Quad Transmit Receive Module, or QTRM, solutions for AESA/E-Scan radar applications offer a unique and innovative solution to system integrators and prime contractors seeking a high performance, high level transmit/receive solution for the development of active antenna array systems and sub-systems.

The C-Band T/R module contains four transmit / receive (T/R) channels providing four RF ports which can be connected to individual antenna elements to form part of a phased array active antenna unit.

C-Band QTRM

QTRM - Quad Transmit Receive Module (4-Channel T/R Module)

The module is fitted with blind mate RF connectors and its height and antenna port spacing dimensions are specifically designed to allow direct connection to the back of antenna aperture face. Alternatively, RF cable assemblies may be used to connect to the individual antenna elements.

The power amplifier section of each channel incorporates Gallium Nitride technology, this along with provision for liquid cooling allows high power levels, long pulse widths and high duty cycles to be realised.

The Module is supplied from a single 28 volt DC supply and contains the necessary supply conditioning to power the four channels. Built in power supply sequencing and built in test equipment (BITE) functions are included to allow individual channel monitoring and shut-down in the presence of a fault condition.

Module communication for control and monitoring is provided by a half-duplex, asynchronous serial EIA485 bus.

QTRM 'building blocks' for AESA Radar Solutions


Quad T/R Modules for Systems Integration

Using a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) approach, API Technologies has developed a ‘common module’ building approach that streamlines system integration, simplifies repair, and reduces the cost of ownership of AESA / e-scan array / e-scan radar platforms.

For this 'common module' building approach, we have chosen a QTRM (Quad Transmit Receive Module) as the ‘common module.’ Available as either a standalone solution or as part of API’s Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU) product, the QTRM can be integrated into phased array antenna applications, serving as a stackable building block as part of an antenna sub-array. This stacked approach facilitates ease of configuration and field repair of radar units.

Available in various bands and product configurations, our Quad Transmit Receive Module forms the main element of an AESA radar system.
